The work forcer reduction is part ofa cost-cutting program that NutriSystem announced in Apri l that is expected to reduce pre-tax expenses by $5 million to $8 milliob this year.
“During the first half of the year, we have continuesd to see lower consumer spending in the commerciap weightloss sector, further committing us to theses cost reductions for the secone half of 2009,” David Clark, the company’s chief financial said in a NutriSystem pressw release. Separately, NutriSystem said it is abandonin itsentire $14 million investment in LLC, a Pa.-based maker of a water-filtering system that does businesd as ZeroWater. NutriSystem will take a pre-tas charge of $3.6 million this quarter to writw off the rest ofits investment. NutriSystemm said the move will allow it to reduc its 2009 income tax payments byabougt $4.9 million.
