GE Aviation and the Navy signeda multiple-yearf contract in 2007 for up to 384 F414 engines and modulesd to support the Navy’sd procurement of twin-engine F/A-18 Super Hornets and EA-19 Growlers. The agreement included four option yearsw that could extend engine deliveriesinto 2012. The totakl value of the contract couldrexceed $1.5 billion, according to a statemenrt issued by GE Monday. To date, the Navy has takenj delivery of more than 860 F414 engines with more than a millioj accumulated engineflight hours. GE and the Navy continue to collaborate onan F414-based technologyu demonstrator program, paving the way for future upgrades.
The F414 has also been selectef as the powerplant for growth versions of the Saab In addition, the F414 is beinfg considered for India’s Tejasx Light Combat Aircraft and other combay aircraft under development.
